I don't know about when one becomes a professional, but tabla is a never-ending journey. You set yourself goals and you work at them, and you do start to see results pretty quickly. Often it is the journey that is more rewarding than you think!

He comes over for my parent's Chakardar Summer School every year in the summer, so yeah I guess once a year

yeah, he is bored with hearing the same compositions being played and likes to alter themhe's well known for sitting in tabla solos and spontaneously shouting at the main artist to play something new or to change the taal and because he's so well respected, it keeps the main artist not only worried but prepared to play the best

I dont know much about tabla theory but the Shankar Ghosh compositions are superb. It appears to me that he adds a stylish touch to the original old stuff. At least it sounds that way.

simplest phrase to keep playing is:dheredhere ketetakaagain and againor a harder one is:dheredhere dheredhere ketetakaanother one is:dheredhere ketetaka TAKAtere ketetakathe capital letters indicates you play with 4 fingers on ink of tabla on right handketetaka is played ke, te with 3 fingers on right hand on ink, ta with first finger on right hand on ink and ka is the same as ke
