i thought you were just supposed to sit straight up in a chair, relaxed of course, and breathe easily and make sure only your stomach is moving, and not your chest, is that wrong? it sounds a lot like "book breathing" my teacher also said to "sing from your chest, not your stomach" but when you breathe the air into your chest, your throat tenses up immediately, and you haven't even began to sing . . . HELP!

Book breathing??!!! This went out in the dark ages!! It goes against all modern scientific research into healthy breathing for singing - and goes against the principles of the centuries old Italian school os singing as well. It encourages belly breathing (incorrect) and is likely to lead to inefficient, heavy vocalism and tension.
