That's right. The fiddle is what peppy musicians call the violin.

Mairead herself has commented that there is really no difference between a violin and a fiddle, it is the same instrument.

thank you so much for your information. I started to sudy violin last year but the teacher technique wasn't good, so I have to left it. :(

As a violinist, I'm 99.9% certain there's no difference since the violin and the fiddle are the same instrument. It's simply a matter of style and technique. I am classically trained, but I have two or three violins that were my ancestors, and they played "fiddle music".
